Tinker

My special girl, I will always love you.

Spirits Remembered

Spirits remembered, hearts betrayed

A silent passage on a dreary day

No soft purrs to calm the nerves

No gentle nuzzle to ease the curves

Silence built in quiet hours

Souls that pass to greater powers

Memories stained with tears of love

Blessed by those who shine from above.

THE KING

Thru the savannahs of the old world prowls the king of beasts
He stalks with silent footsteps the prey upon which he feasts
His roar is heard between the valleys and rings from the mountain top
The strength with which he walks no unarmed man can stop
His gentleness of spirit is seen within his young
The glory of his might are where legends have begun
He is one of the elders who came before us all
He will walk beside you when its time for the final call
He is called the king which all must bow before
He stands in front of the golden gate to open the last door

For Mercy’s Sake

A ball of fur, a wiggling tail, comes running thru the door
Funny smells tickle the nose and make her run looking for more.
Tumbling head over heels, laughing till’ I ache
Don’t let her stop, for mercy’s sake.
Mercy, what a beautiful name for such a little thing
The lopsided smile, dark brown eyes, makes my heart sing.
Watching her grow over the years,
Helping me to conquer my fears.
Long walks thru beautiful parks
Loving the thrill of her life giving spark.
Age comes to all, some before their time
The ties that bind have made her mine.
I watch her walk, a slight stumble that’s all
When did this start, I don’t recall.
Her eyes seem faded, where did she go
Is she in pain, I need to know.
The doctor looks, his face is grim
I try so hard to hold the tears in
Her time is near, my mind is numb
A painful choice is about to come.
To live without the joy of my life
Causes such hurt, brings such strife
The decision is made to let her go
The best choice for her, that much I know.
A needle is placed to end her days
It hurts like hell in so many ways
I find the courage, I do what it takes
And I do it all for Mercy’s sake.

My Friend in the Corner

I thought I'd introduce my little friend in the corner. His name is Imba and he comes from Africa. He is a Cusimanse which is related to the mongoose family. He is a crazy little guy, constantly squeaking and rummaging around his cage trying to find something to get in to.

His story started at the airport where he and a friend were shipped and didn't get picked up by the people who shipped him. He was small, just a couple of months old, but even then he was cute in his own way. The airport called and asked for someone to come get them and take care of them, so thats where my part of his adventure began.

Not knowing much about cusimanse, most of the info that we found about them was on the web. Because they are not that well known not much is published about them so part of his initial care was guesswork. In the wild these guys will eat insects and small rodents but we found out fast that they don't limit themselves with just a couple of different tastes. Imba will eat just about anything if he's given the chance to get to it, including french fries(yes we know its bad for him). As he's gotten older his diet has been modified so he gets less junk food. He gets alot of catfood, ferret food and loves meat. In fact if you aren't careful your finger could be mistaken for grub. He also absolutely loves to be scratched everywhere and will grab you to get a scratch.

He has been with us for 5 or 6 years now and is starting to become a senior citizen. The average lifespan is about 9 years in the wild but we are hoping for longer than that. He has become a big part of our daily lives and we would miss him a great deal. I for one have really gotten attached to this little monster. He has been wonderful fun and a great learning experience. Although I wouldn't recommend cusimanse as pets, I wouldn't have missed this for anything.

TOUCHED THE TIGER

I have touched the tiger and have walked with the mighty wolf
I have laughed with the spotted leopard and healed those who walk upon the hoof
The messengers of the airways have graced me with their song
The creatures of the water have allowed me to swim along
Each has their own special way, each does their own part
Their spirits guide my footsteps, their souls guide my heart
Without them there to guide me and teach what life’s about
Makes me so much poorer of that there is no doubt
I have been their shepherd and they have been my light
For I have touched the tiger and they have given me sight.
